Welcome to ECU’s research and research training website. ECU is committed to undertaking high-quality research which has strong social, economic, environmental and cultural impact, i.e. research that makes a difference. Research at ECU is underpinned by the dual strategies of concentration and collaboration. Identifying the University’s areas of research strength has enabled a concentration of expertise and effort that is contributing to policy development, improving professional practice and delivering tangible outcomes in the areas of: Collaboration is strongly encouraged both across Faculties and Schools within ECU and through engagement with external partners. External engagement occurs with local, national and international institutions, industry and community partners, and all levels of government. Broadening an already extensive network of collaborations, major new research partnerships have been established including State and Federal Centres of Excellence, CSIRO Collaborative Research Flagships and Australian Research Council (ARC) Research Networks.

ECU offers a high quality higher degree by research program which is an essential component of the University’s vibrant research culture. Higher degree awards offered by the University include Master by Research degrees, Professional Doctorates and PhDs. The University aims to produce graduates with the knowledge, skills and competencies necessary to plan and conduct research studies and apply findings within their discipline area, complemented with generic skills of collaboration and teamwork, problem solving and communication. It undertakes to do this through the provision of a high quality research-training environment characterised by excellent supervision, appropriate infrastructure support, a stimulating intellectual climate, and excellent administrative support and services..
